(F,G) From 72 hpf, the initial phase of retinal neurogenesis is complete and all five major cell types are easily identifiable by their colour and position in the retina. Throughout development, the retina keeps growing in size. (H) Newly differentiated multicoloured cells are generated only in the retina periphery, in the ciliary marginal zone (CMZ), as shown in the transverse section of a 2-month-old SoFa1 retina.
