We study the genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms that ensure the proper formation and function of the circulatory system. Specifically, our lab has made seminal contributions in the following areas. (1) Genetic control of the reproducibility of the vascular pattern. (2) Influence of blood flow on vascular remodeling and caliber sizing. (3) Cerebrovascular development and barriergenic differentiation. (4) Characterization of novel mechanisms of vessel formation. Our toolkit includes confocal imaging, gene expression analysis, forced gene expression, transgenesis, genome editing, cell transplantation, cell culture, and biochemistry.
