Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of tissue regeneration using zebrafish, a vertebrate model known for its high regenerative capacity. We aim to understand how regenerative processes can counteract degenerative conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases. On the one hand, by comparing the mechanisms of regeneration and cancer, we explore whether gene regulatory programs of regeneration can be leveraged to mitigate cancer progression. On the other hand, we have developed brain injury models in zebrafish, mimicking traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, demyelination diseases, and diet-induced damage. As the only group in our country studying tissue regeneration mechanisms using zebrafish models, we are committed to advancing knowledge in this field. We believe that the insights gained from our studies will not only contribute to a deeper understanding of neurodegenerative disease mechanisms but also to identify and test candidate therapeutic strategies against brain injuries and neurodegeneration, which affect millions globally.
