Definition
A water soluble mixture of different dyes extracted from various species of lichens particularly Variolaria, Lecanora and Rocella. Consists chiefly of azolitmin and erythrolitmin combined with alkalis. Used as an acid-base indicator pH 4.5 red, 8.3 blue.
