- An amino-acid residue that is formed when the carboxy group of any amino acid (where R is the side chain) undergoes a cyclodehydration reaction with a neighbouring L-serine amino acid in a protein, resulting in the formation of a 2-oxazoline ring which is dehydrogenated to the corresponding 1,3-oxazole moiety.
