Biography and Research Interest
I am interested in neurodegenerative diseases with the focus on polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias. After earning my Bachelor’s degree in zoology, I worked as a teaching and research assistant at the Zoology Department, Suez Canal University, Egypt. I received my Master’s degree in behavioral neurobiology at Suez Canal University where I worked on learning and memory in mice. I completed my Doctoral degree in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) through the German Egyptian Research Long-term Scholarship Program at Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology Department, Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, where I generated the first genetic model of spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) in zebrafish. Currently, I am interested in using this model together with another SCA1 models to deeper understand the pathogenic mechanisms of this disease and develop therapeutic approaches. I hope that my research will be fruitful for SCA research community and patients in the future.
