Biography and Research Interest
The human brain is estimated to contain more connections between neurons than the Milky Way has stars! In the Miller lab we are interested in understanding the molecular and activity-based logic of how neural circuits wire together and produce behavior. We study genes, synapses, neural circuits, and behavior, and how they all come together in the zebrafish. We use zebrafish as a model, first because its obviously the best, and also because to solve the big problems of how circuits of a brain are created zebrafish offers the forward and reverse genetic techniques, the cellular and neural activity imaging, and the behavioral accessibility needed to construct a systematic understanding of the complex wiring steps required to make a functional brain.
