Simplified illustration summarizing the relation between (un)coupling of retinal gap junctions and axial eye growth. We hypothesize, based on reported literature and the outcome of this study (asterisk), that the (un)coupling of retinal gap junctions may play an intermediate role in controlling emmetropization.
