In July 2019 it was determined that this gene, formerly known as eif1b, is actually an ortholog of mammalian EIF1 and the name was changed accordingly. Nomenclature changes can be confusing, so it is done only after compelling evidence is found to support the change. In this case, the evidence included strong AA identity, synteny and phylogenetic analysis. Another gene has been identifed as orthologous to the mammalian EIF1B.
